The projection size of a projector depends only on the size of the projection screen (screen) or the wall and can, with a cheap 2.4 meter wide screen, give an image corresponding to a TV over 100 inches!

This cinematic image experience was brought to us by ViewSonic X2, a smart projector with many talents. To begin with, this is an LED projector with a huge “lamp” life, since the LEDs it uses have a duration of 30,000 hours of use, with a brightness of 3100 lumens and excellent color performance. The projector itself is very conveniently sized, about the size of a shoebox, and weighs 3.5kg, making it easy to carry and set up. The process of centering is a simple matter, although it has all the necessary controls (keystone, skew, corner adjust) as well as auto adjust, to achieve a perfect image even if the projector is not in the center. The fact that it is a short-throw means that it can project the image from a close distance (up to 95 cm), which means that we do not have to look for the ideal placement point.

Both projector and smart

The ViewSonic X2 is a smart projector with its own operating system. It connects to the Internet via Wi-Fi and has built-in apps for Netflix, YouTube, Internet surfing, gaming, while the user can also install their own apps if desired. By connecting a wireless keyboard and mouse, the X2 can easily become an infotainment center in its own right.

Connections

On the back of the X2 we find all the necessary ports for interfacing with all image sources and more. The main ones are the two HDMI 2.0 (HDCP 1.4/2.2) and one USB type C for connecting to a computer, console, or anything else. At the same time there is a USB port (type A) for connecting storage media (e.g. hard disk) or keyboard/mouse. There is also an audio input with a 3.5mm jack, but also an audio output with a 3.5mm jack. To control the projector there is also a DB-9 serial RS232 port, as well as another USB type A port. In terms of wireless connections, the X2 also has Bluetooth 4.2, both as an audio input – since it can work and simply as wireless speakers – as well as output. But the most important thing is Wi-Fi, which allows it to connect to any smartphone and cast or mirror, for direct viewing!

Special mention should be made of the sound system of the X2, which is designed by the well-known Harman-Kardon, which has two full-range speakers with a power of 2×6W, for high-quality sound without the need for external speakers.

Features and performance
ViewSonic is a latest generation DLP technology projector from Texas Instruments, with a native resolution of 1920×1080, which gives it excellent contrast. As we mentioned above, the “lamp” of the projector is of LED technology, while through software it supports resolutions from simple VGA (640×480) up to 4k (3840×2160) with a scan rate of up to 120Hz. The final image size obviously depends on the distance, but is typically quoted as a size range of 60 to 120 inches. We have a nominal brightness of 3100 lumens (LED), enough to work comfortably even in rooms with daylight, although you will see all its splendor at night in a dark room.

The ViewSonic is operated via the included remote control, which even has a motion sensor and backlight on the keys, for operation even in total darkness! But the most interesting thing is the ViewSonic app, which allows full control of the projector from the smartphone, using the touch screen of the mobile as a second screen. From there one can handle the X2 environment comfortably, since the remote control is not made for typing – we remind you that the X2 even has Chrome for internet browsing!

Conclusions

X2 is a very interesting model, which can easily find a place both in the living room of a house and in the meeting room of any office. Its connectivity allows for everything from simple laptop presentations, viewing movies and content via Netflix, to console-connected gaming or PC gaming. Its brightness is such that it works comfortably in the lit meeting room, while as we found in our tests, its color performance offers an amazing image in movies. For an image size that would make even a movie theater jealous, in a convenient size and a short viewing distance, the ViewSonic X2 is truly a delight to behold.
