Many believe that the cleaning of some household appliances, such as the washing machine or the iron, is not necessary, as they consider (unfortunately wrongly) that these appliances are self-disinfecting (one with water and the other with high temperatures).

If you don’t want all the dirt from your iron to end up on your freshly washed clothes, then you should disinfect it regularly.

Remove all dirt Place a paper towel on your ironing board and pour a spoonful of salt on it. Spread the salt on the surface of the paper towel and iron it, setting the iron to the highest temperature and without steam. All the dirt inside the iron will come out and stick to the salt.

Clean the vents Use some cotton swabs to clean the vents. You will need some vinegar and some patience to clean the holes effectively. Having previously cleaned with the salt, it will be much easier to clean the holes as all the dirt will have come out. This cleaning process should be done while your iron is unplugged. Once you’ve cleaned the holes with some vinegar, go over them again with water and cotton swabs to remove any amount of vinegar left on the holes.

With a little vinegar and water you will clean your iron inside.

Clean the iron inside Put an equal amount of water and vinegar into the hole of the iron where the water is placed until the iron is 1/3 full. Plug the iron in and set it to medium heat. Leave it for 10 minutes in the socket until all the vinegar comes out through the steam. Then fill the entire iron with water to remove any remaining dirt that may have accumulated inside your iron as well as vinegar residue.

Tip If the metal plate on the bottom of your iron has heavy marks and stains, then you can clean it with a little baking soda and water. Make a paste consisting of 2 tbsp. baking soda (toothpaste works just as well) and some water and with a cloth rub your iron with this mixture.

Be careful not to use metal wires on the metal plate of your iron.

Clean the outside of the iron With a cloth, some dishwashing detergent and water you can perfectly clean the outside of your iron. Simply mix a small amount of detergent in a basin of water and with a cotton cloth wipe the outside of the iron, rubbing the areas that have a particular problem. Just make sure your iron isn’t plugged in.

Attention If your iron has burnt fabric marks you should immediately remove them using a wet sponge on the problem surface. Due to the sudden change in temperature,

the burn will be removed much more easily.

Extra tip So that your iron does not need regular disinfection, make sure to always empty the remaining water after each use.
