Jakarta International Stadium or JIS is one of the best monumental works carried out by Indonesian children. This stadium was built on an area of 221,000 square meters and involved 3,036 workers. JIS is internationally recognized as one of the 10 most magnificent stadiums in the world according to the Daily Mail UK. Currently, JIS has 4 entrances and 127 entrances to the stands for spectators. For parking, there are no minimum restrictions that must be met according to FIFA stadium guidelines. However, JIS provides 1,200 parking spaces dedicated to spectators.
This stadium is the largest in Indonesia with a capacity of up to 82,000 spectators. The area of JIS is almost the same as Real Madrid’s stadium, Santiago Bernabeu. Apart from that, the construction also succeeded in breaking MURI records in 3 categories, including the heaviest stadium roof structure and the longest lifting fortress, the first open-close roof stadium in Indonesia, as well as platinum green building certification.
To improve public transportation services, JIS can be accessed via 3 Transjakarta routes, namely JIS 3 (Harmoni – JIS), Route 14 (JIS – Senen), and Route 12P (LRT Pegangsaan dua – JIS). There are also 2 train services, namely the Ultimate Station which is still under construction and the Temporary Station which will start in October 2022.
JIS was built based on recommendations from FIFA, many other stadiums in Indonesia whose quality is not better still get permission to hold matches. JIS standardization has been proposed since the 2022 season, but has not been approved by the operator and PSSI. A polemic also emerged regarding the JIS field grass, where the grass project carried out by PT Karya Rama Prima was allegedly not in accordance with FIFA recommendations, even though the design was prepared by Tottenham Hotspur Stadium consultants and complies with FIFA standards.
The JIS field has been used several times for matches by international teams such as Barcelona U18, Atletico Madrid U18, and Chonburi FC Thailand in 2022. JIS has provided a good experience for the players. The Grand Launching of the Jakarta International Stadium is expected to be attended by around 70,000 spectators.
Apart from that, JIS has also organized other events such as Jisphoria and Indonesia Melek Digital. However, previous events have faced challenges in crowd management and traffic engineering. This obstacle also caused delays in finalizing the concert time and had an impact on the shuttle bus exceeding the operating hours agreed upon in the cooperation agreement.
Jakarta International Stadium has hosted various major sporting and entertainment events. This stadium has been a venue for national and international football matches, including Indonesian League 1 matches and FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. Apart from football, JIS has also been a location for major music concerts and other entertainment events.
